Fernando began his professional career in banking, working for Manufacturers Hanover Trust in Capital Markets before joining Banco Espanol de Credito in 1988.
In 1994 he became CEO of Media Planning S.A.
Fernando became a member of the Havas Board in 1999 when Media Planning S.A. joined with Havas, to form MPG (now Havas Media).
